Set among majestic oak
trees in the center of Ojai, the Libbey Bowl has been the heart
of Ojais community and cultural events for over 50 years,
and home for the Ojai Music Festival. Throughout
the years, the Festival has welcomed some of the 20th Centurys
most notable luminaries to the Libbey Bowl stage. Famous musicians,
including Aaron Copland, Igor Stravinsky, and Pierre Boulez, have
all performed at the Bowl, as well as rising artists in search of
a musical refuge to work on their craft, including Michael Tilson
Thomas, Kent Nagano, and eighth blackbird.
A
Cherished Venue to Last a Lifetime
Years of exposure to the
elements compounded by termite damage and wood rot compromised the
Bowl to the point that it is slated to be condemned in two years.
The new design not only
benefits the Festival and all Bowl users, but will ensure an enhanced
artistic experience for the Festival high-caliber artists who will
perform for years to come.
The
New Design Incorporates:
Much-needed
expansions of the backstage areas for artists and production needs
Re-grading
of the seating and lawn areas for improved sightlines and handicapped
access.
A
slightly expanded stage area
Modern
building and green materials
Creation
of appropriate site drainage
Planting
of more than 30 trees throughout the venue for shade and beauty
